Intra Oral Dental Assisting Level I & II

Introduction

The Intra Oral Dental Assisting Level I and II course will prepare the student to assist the dentist in all dental procedures in a general practice or a specialist setting.

Our state of the art facilities give students plenty of practice in real situations with modern equipment. The program includes field training in a dental office as well as extensive practical experience with knowledgeable instructors. Training includes taking x-rays and sterilization, as well as an office administration overview to give the individual a well-rounded knowledge of all the functions of a modern dental office.

This program provides the student with the theoretical and practical experience. All concepts taught in the classroom are demonstrated and practiced in the clinical setting on mannequins, student partners, and clients. Students must demonstrate these clinical skills while adhering to the ODAA Code of Ethics.

Our Intra Oral Dental Assisting Level I and II curriculum has been approved by the National Dental Assisting Examining Board (NDAEB).. Graduates of the program are able to write the National Dental Assisting Board Examination.

Program Prerequisites & Requirements
  • Ontario Secondary Diploma - OSSD 30 Credits (General level and/or Advanced) or;
  • Grade 12 Equivalency - GED Certificate or;
  • Canadian Public College Diploma or;
  • Canadian University Degree or;
  • Be at least 18 years of age and pass a Superintendent approved qualifying test. The Canadian Achievement Survey Test is accepted at Toronto College of Dental Hygiene and Auxiliaries Inc. Valid ID must be provided to show proof of age.

Monday to Thursday
Morning class: 9am - 2pm
Evening class: 5:30pm - 10:30pm
Course length: 41 weeks program
Salary range: approx. $16-$23 /hour

Dental Assisting Level II

Introduction

Our Level II Dental Assisting Program's curriculum has been approved the National Dental Assisting Examining Board (NDAEB)..Graduates of the program are able to write the National Dental Assisting Board Examination.

This program provides the student with the theoretical and practical experience of a Level II Dental Assistant. All concepts taught in the classroom are demonstrated and practiced in the clinical setting on mannequins, student partners, and clients. Students must demonstrate these clinical skills while adhering to the ODAA Code of Ethics.

Program Prerequisites & Requirements
  • Dental Assisting (Level I)
  • Dental radiography
  • Mechanical polishing of the coronal portion of the teeth (not including any instrumentation)
  • Placement and removal of rubber dam
  • Taking of preliminary impressions of teeth for study models
  • Topical application of anti-cariogenic agents
  • Oral hygiene instruction with an intra-oral component
  • Dietary counseling relative to dentistry
  • Application of materials topically to prepare the surface of the teeth for pit and fissure sealants
  • Application of pit and fissure sealants
  • Application of topical anesthetics
  • Application of desensitizing agents
  • Whitening of the coronal portion of the teeth using materials generally available to the public without prescription
  • Application of treatment liners (no pulpal involvement)*
  • Application of matrices and wedges*

Friday: 4pm - 8pm
Saturday & Sunday: 8am - 5pm
Course length: 8 weekend program
Salary range: approx. $16-$23 /hour
